Q. Why is it important to be able to update a modchip?
A. Modchip code features change all the time, new updates and new codes are being released every week, and sometimes every day. Without a cable upgrade feature, your stuck with the one that you first choose, unless you like removing the chip to upgrade it all the time.
Q. I hear other chips are upgradeable via DVD, why don’t you just use that method?
A. DVD upgrade methods only use an EPROM patch system; it’s not really a full proper upgrade. If you want to completely change the code, you can't. Cable upgrading is also great if you have a power out during an code change..
Q. I've installed the chip and nothing happens. What's wrong?
A. The Wii-BOSS is shipped with no code on it, this is a good thing. This means you can choose what code you want on it and encourages users to experiment with the programmer that is supplied. It is also beneficial to users where modchip distribution with code on them in some country's are considered illegal. For the most part, these chips can be freely distributed with no recompense from the law. There is a video tutorial on how to program your chip with your desired code.
Q. What code do you recommend to put on the chip?
A. We use Wii-Free (update 26/09/07.... yaosm 1.8 is much much better), but what we like and what you like may be different, so feel free to experiment. There is a full list of open-source projects available on this website. If there is any that we have missed, please inform the website administrator.
Q. Can I use the programmer for anything else other than upgrading my Wii-Boss?
A. Certainly. It’s a modified JDM, we have deliberately added a PIC socket for making your own homebrew chips (of many sorts) if you desire. While that may seem stupid to our competitors, we say that the whole point of a modchip is to equalize the market. Placing copy protection on code and hardware or removing features from products is unfair to the consumer and breaches antitrust. We hope that by pricing our chips reasonably and donating back to the homebrew scene as much as practicable, we will earn our consumers respect. Stay tuned for more symbiote releases.
Q. Will the Wii-BOSS work with the new pins cut wii model
A. Yes, but you will need to rebuild the tracks, please see the installation section.
Q. Will the Wii-BOSS work with the new D2C model?
A. We don’t know yet, its code dependant, rest assured we will do what we can to help the scene develop a code for it.
